Rally: a crew killed in a race in Ardèche

A driver and his co-driver were killed during a road trip on the national rally of the Annonean basin, in Ardèche, AFP learned on Sunday from concordant sources. The driver, Nathanaël Degrange, and his co-driver, Benoît Surot, both from Savoie, made a violent road trip shortly before 7 p.m. on Saturday, aboard their Renault Clio 3 RS, engaged in the 26th national rally of the basin Annonean, said the prefecture. “The weather was very rainy,” said the same source. But the causes of the accident remain unknown, Paul Durand, president of the ASA Haut-Vivarais, association which organized the race, told AFP. “Is it a mechanical problem? Pilot error? An investigation is underway,” he said. The race was stopped after the tragedy. Nathanaël Degrange had participated in 80 rallies since his debut in 2004, for 23 retirements. He had been collaborating with Benoît Surot since 2010.
