Ramadan 2022: what is the “Night of Doubt”?

It is this Saturday, April 30 that the “Night of Doubt” takes place. An event that will determine the date of the end of Ramadan for all Muslims.

As it began on April 2, 2022, the end of Ramadan is fast approaching for all Muslims. The announcement was made via a press release from the Grand Mosque of Paris. This year, the “Night of Doubt” will take place on Saturday April 30, which corresponds to the 29and day of the blessed month of Ramadan.

It is during this evening that a religious commission meets at the Great Mosque of Paris from 6:30 p.m., with the aim of determining the end of the month of Ramadan as well as the beginning of Eid el-Fitr. At the end of this evening, Muslims will therefore be fixed on the exact date of Eid al-Fitr. This should be either Sunday 1er May i.e. Monday, May 2, 2022.

Between 5 and 6 million Muslims concerned

As a reminder, since the beginning of Ramadan, Muslims have to live with certain restrictions. They are then deprived of water, food, cigarettes, sexual intercourse and many other things, and this, from sunrise to sunset, during a lunar cycle.

“The holy month of Ramadan” is part of one of the five pillars of Islam, in addition to prayer, almsgiving, the pilgrimage to Mecca and the profession of faith.
