Range record – Ford Mustang Mach-E goes into the Guinness book

With a range record for fully electric series vehicles, the Ford Mustang Mach-E has secured an entry in the “Guiness Book of Records”. When driving from the northeast to the southeast of Great Britain, the sedan could theoretically cover a distance of 500 miles (a little more than 800 kilometers) on one battery charge.

The Ford covered a total of 1,351 kilometers on the tour. It is the greatest distance that can be traveled in one direction on the road in the UK. The journey was interrupted by two charging stops that together lasted less than 45 minutes. The British Highway Code recommends a break of at least 15 minutes every two hours.

The Ford started in John O’Groats, a place on the north-eastern tip of Scotland. The destination was Land’s End in the far west of Cornwall. An independent analysis of the data showed that the Mustang Mach-E traveled around 6.5 miles per kilowatt hour of electrical energy. In relation to the actually usable (= net) battery capacity of 88 kilowatt hours, the efficiency of the record vehicle reflects a range of over 500 miles – this corresponds to a little more than 800 kilometers on a single battery charge and thus exceeds the factory specification of 610 kilometers (WLTP, combined) for the version with the large extended-range battery and rear-wheel drive by 200 kilometers.

The Mustang Mach-E was driven by Paul Clifton, BBC Transport correspondent, as well as Fergal McGrath and Kevin Booker, who have already set savings records with gasoline and diesel engines. The team covered around 400 kilometers a day and still had at least 45 percent battery charge in the evening.
