Rare result in the test: This is how tofu performs at ÖKO-TEST

Rarely does the ÖKO-TEST magazine sing such a jubilee about the products it has tested: In its current issue (issue 8/2022), the testers praise tofu over the green clover. Out of 22 natural tofus, 14 received the top grade of “very good”, seven others scored “good” and only one tofu received the grade “satisfactory”. 200 grams cost between 90 cents and 2.49 euros.

The soybean quark scores points as a healthy vegetable
Protein supplier: It is free of pesticides and genetic engineering, not contaminated with mold toxins and mineral oil components and, unlike highly processed meat substitutes, does not contain any additives or flavors. All products, of which 200 grams cost between 90 cents and 2.49 euros, were also grown in an environmentally friendly manner in Europe, mostly in Austria.

From the tester’s point of view, a few points on the short list of deficiencies are missing information on the coagulant used during production, a pinch of too much salt and a little too much aluminum, which some plants absorb from the soil.
