In order for the lawn to grow well, it should be aerated regularly. This works particularly well with a so-called aerating fork. Read here why the purchase is worthwhile.
Many hobby gardeners want a lush green, dense stalks and even growth for their lawn. However, proper care precedes a healthy garden. Because in addition to mowing the lawn and weeding, it is important to free the turf from dead grass and organic material, the so-called lawn thatch.
In addition, the lawn should be aerated regularly, which provides the roots with water and oxygen. This procedure is called aerating and should be carried out with an appropriate fork.
For a nicer lawn: what does an aerator do?
You poke deep holes in the ground with an aerating fork, and the soil is then pulled out in a cylindrical shape with the help of a tine. This makes your lawn more resilient and allows it to develop healthily, with the quality of the lawn grass also improving significantly.
In principle, it is advisable to aerate a heavily used lawn every one to two months from the end of March to the beginning of October. For little-used areas, once a year is sufficient. Also watch out for dry weather.
Where can I buy an aerator?
You can find cheap models on Amazon already from 40 euros. In specialist shops, for example from the manufacturer “AeriFork”, the price for the ventilation forks is then significantly higher. You can also find a suitable device in all common hardware stores, some of which are also electric. You can also get advice there.
Instead of a fork, you can also special nail shoes use, which you can attach to the soles with a simple Velcro fastener. This won’t pull out soil, but you’ll still provide aeration and maintain the lawn without much effort as you walk. The shoes, which are also cheaper than an aeration fork, can be found at the online retailer Amazon – here is the deal.
