Raspberry Pi and Aldi: Medion presents notebook based on Raspberry Pi
A festival for hobbyists and students who are interested in computer technology: Medion is presenting a new concept notebook with Raspberry at this year’s British Educational Training and Technology Show (BETT, March 23 to 25, 2022) in London. Pi technology. The project is not only aimed at hobbyists, but is also designed for the educational sector and could be used in schools. The advantage of a Raspberry Pi in a notebook instead of the usual kit form is the lower threshold for beginners and the possibility of using the computer on the move – just like any other notebook.

Medion laptop with Raspberry Pi: That’s behind it
The prototype is based on an adapted Raspberry Pi Compute Module 4 with Cortex-A72 processor (ARM v8) with 4 gigabytes of RAM, which is permanently installed in the notebook housing. The hurdle of the initial setup is thus overcome directly, because the keyboard, touchpad, 11.6-inch display with webcam (1 megapixel resolution), loudspeaker and battery are already integrated – so the device can be used anywhere without any effort. A WLAN chip is also part of the standard equipment. The real highlight: In contrast to normal notebooks, it has a GPIO interface on the outside where the USB ports are located. Breadboards, temperature and humidity sensors, programmable robots, LCD screens and motion sensors can be connected and integrated into your own projects.
Office applications and programming games
The notebook design offers the usual comfort of a laptop in terms of mobility and usability: You can make video calls with the built-in HD camera and microphone and start productively with the already installed apps for office applications (Libre Office) and the web browser . Great: The notebook should also have many tutorials that help, among other things, with programming languages such as Python or Scratch. This would be an ideal learning platform for students who are gaining their first experience with computer technology.
Aldi Raspberry Pi: price and availability
Medion is still keeping a low profile about the price. The Raspberry mentioned above costs about 55 euros, which sounds cheap at first. But there are also a lot of accessories such as display, keyboard, battery, webcam and the special housing with GPIO interface. In total, the individual parts cost around 400 to 500 euros. The project is still in the conception phase, so nothing can be said about a possible release date.
Big Stage: BETT in London
The BETT is considered the largest event in the field of educational technology and gathers visitors from over 120 countries. Spread over three days, it features presentations from over 400 leading educational solution providers, over 90 sessions and more than 300 speakers.
