Antoinette in the Cévennes, the remake! The director of Twilight will direct a new version of the film with an Australian actress.
5 years after its successful release in France, Antoinette in the Cévennes will be the subject of an English-language remake! Australian actress Toni Collette (Hereditary, Muriel…) will take over the role of Laure Calamy and will be the heroine of the film called A French Pursuit.
Like the ad Varietythe direction of this remake was entrusted to Catherine Hardwicke, to whom we owe notably Twilight Chapter 1, Thirteen, or more recently Mafia Mamma (already with Toni Collette in the main role, and released directly on VOD in France ).
The donkey in the remake will be called Napoleon!
Like the original, the action will take place in the Cévennes, but several differences will be noted to transpose the story with an English-speaking character.
Antoinette will now be called Zoe Turner, an English arts teacher, in love with a Frenchman named Jean-Louis. Zoé is going to embark for the Cévennes to pursue her lover. The donkey Patrick in the French version will now be called… Napoleon! The screenplay is by Olivia Hetreed (A Dress for Mrs Harris, Girl with a Pearl Earring).
For memory, Antoinette in the Cévennes was released in a disaster context for the cinema, this sunny comedy (and animal, with the irresistible Patrick!) had defied all predictions by establishing itself as one of the successes of the year: an excellent press rating of 4 out of 5, 800,000 admissions (8th biggest French success of the year 2020), and a César to end the extraordinary career of this film!
Laure Calamy and director Caroline Vignal recently met for Iris and the Men, released in cinemas at the beginning of January. After the Cévennes, a change of scenery: scenes of Parisian life have replaced the greenery of the Cévennes.
In Iris and the Men, Laure Calamy has a wonderful husband, two perfect daughters, a thriving dental practice: everything is going well for her. But since when has she not made love? Maybe it’s time to take a lover. Registering on an ordinary dating app, Iris opens Pandora’s box. Men are going to fall… As if it were raining!
