The states of North Carolina and Montana just passed new age verification laws for porn sites. And since January 1, 2024, residents can no longer consult the various sites on the network of Pornhub’s parent company.
The end of Pornhub in North Carolina and Montana
Last year, Louisiana ushered in a new wave of laws regarding age verification for visiting pornographic sites. Since then, eight states have adopted similar laws, and they are now joined by North Carolina and Montana.
Some sites, such as xHamster, require biometric identity verification through a third-party service, Yoti. On Pornhub’s side, however, we consider that this is not the most effective solution to protect users, and that it can also endanger young people and respect for privacy. Also, since January 1, 2024, Pornhub has been inaccessible in North Carolina, as in Montana.
Many pornographic sites affected
Note that this decision does not only concern the Pornhub website, but also other websites from Aylo, formerly MindGeek. This is particularly the case for Redtube, Brazzers, YouPorn, and a few others.
The message notably indicates that user security is one of the main concerns of the platform. “ We believe the best and most effective solution to protect children and adults is to identify users by their device and allow access to age-restricted content and websites based on that identification “, we can read.
Thus, while waiting for a real solution to be proposed, Aylo has therefore made the decision to completely deactivate access to its websites in certain States.
