High-end switches
In the premium genre, the BlackWidow V4 Pro is a bit there: 110 full-width key format, aluminum alloy structure and removable wrist rest are there to prove it. Its substantial weight – 1.15 kg – and its numerous non-slip pads ensure optimal stability.
Two versions of the keyboard are offered, each equipped with mechanical switches providing different sensations. You have the choice between Green sound switches with a clear and perceptible click or Yellow linear switches, which are more discreet.
We must admit a slight preference for the Yellow ones which do not rattle when pressed. A question of taste, in short. Green or Yellow, Razer switches have an estimated lifespan of 100 million keystrokes, double what the competition offers.
The manufacturer has opted for ABS keys molded by double injection with thick walls to make them almost indestructible. The engraving of the caps is careful and we appreciate the resistance of the whole.
Fully programmable
Eight dedicated macro keys are available as well as a Razer command wheel, all of which are customizable using the Razer Synapse utility. This also allows you to manage the Chroma RGB backlighting specific to the manufacturer which is also found around the chassis.
The utility’s talents do not stop there since it allows you to manage the backlighting key by key, but also to completely reconfigure the keyboard.
The wheel is the real star of the BlackWidow V4 Pro. It can be assigned different functions depending on the software in use. Changing the thickness of the brush in Photoshop, juggling elements when editing a video or even zooming in the browser, all these are among the actions that we can carry out very simply thanks to its help.
The programmable keys are not left out and we can assign very practical command sequences to them which will save time. The operation requires a little patience, but is definitely worth it!
On this subject, the removable magnetic wrist rest connects electrically to the keyboard. This makes it possible to power the LED surround with which it is equipped in order to ensure the aesthetic continuity of the whole as well as increased immersion.
This pleasant attention complements a comfort of use that we consider exceptional: made of imitation leather and with quality padding, it is ultra-comfortable and quickly becomes essential.
