Razer took advantage of CES in Las Vegas to unveil its Kiyo Pro Ultra, a webcam coming up against Logitech’s high-end models.
If Logitech is a key player in the webcam market, the Swiss manufacturer has had to deal with the desires of a major competitor, Razer, for several years. The American firm has indeed been offering, since 2018, a range of rather interesting PC cameras with a strong emphasis on low-light performance.
After the Razer Kiyo and Razer Kiyo Pro, the firm unveiled, this Thursday, at CES in Las Vegas, its new webcam, the Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra. Like the previous model, the Kiyo Pro Ultra is distinguished by its atypical look, with a design that looks like a camera lens.
We also find, on the front, inscriptions recalling the annotations found on the photo optics with the words “f1:1.7», «8.5mm” and “wide angle AF-Lens(wide-angle autofocus lens). It’s no secret that Razer is aiming here for a webcam market that is increasingly challenged by that of mirrorless cameras.
An even brighter 4K webcam
To stand out, Razer aims above all for the size of the sensor. This was already the case with the Kiyo Pro in 2021, it is even more so for the 2023 model. The American brand has thus swapped the 1/2.8 inch Sony IMX327 sensor, used two years ago, by a larger 1/1.2 inch Sony Starvis 2 sensor.
If the photosites still measure 2.9 μm on a side, the total definition of the webcam is much greater with this sensor capable of recording RAW video sequences up to 4K at 30p. As a reminder, the first Kiyo Pro remained confined to Full HD at 60p. In addition, the back-illuminated sensor of the Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra is supposed to allow it to register up to four times more light than a competing webcam, according to Razer.
Note also that the Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra benefits from several features such as autofocus tracking with face recognition, software bokeh mode to blur the background or HDR recording up to 30p, particularly practical if you film yourself in a room with very strong contrasts.
The Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra webcam is available from this Thursday. It is offered in France at a price of 299.99 euros. Opposite, its main competitor remains the Logitech Brio 4K, launched at 239 euros. We can also mention the Logitech StreamCam, displayed at 159 euros at its launch.
