Razer Zephyr: the N95 mention withdrawn by the manufacturer

Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, masks have become legion accessories in the West, very useful for protecting yourself and others against viruses and bacteria present in the air. The surgical mask is everywhere, fabric models are also there, but Razer wanted to make the original with the Project Hazel, subsequently renamed Zephyr and marketed for a little over 100 €.

Razer then presented the Zephyr as an N95 respiratory protection with active, removable and rechargeable fans, supplied with a UV box for disinfection. The N95 standard is the equivalent in the United States of the FFP2 used in France, ensuring a very high quality filtration quality, ideal for fully protecting yourself against COVID-19. Except that only the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) is authorized to issue this N95 certification, which she did not do for the Zephyr of Razer, as pointed out by the Chinese videographer Naomi wu.

Razer was not totally at fault. On its official website, he explained that his tests carried out in-house showed a filtration rate equivalent to, or even superior to, the N95 standard. But the structure of the mask itself, which is made of plastic, does not provide sufficient insulation to ensure that the air is not contaminated, even with quality filters. Since then, the manufacturer has posted wholesale on his shop a message explaining that the Zephyr is not an N95 mask, things are clear, but the interest is much more limited …
