Government summons Iranian ambassador to the Foreign Office

In an unprecedented attack, Iran fires hundreds of rockets, drones and cruise missiles at Israel. Germany reacts sharply to this. As a result, Tehran summons the German ambassador. Now the federal government is reacting.

After Iran’s attack on Israel intensified the Middle East conflict, the Foreign Office summoned Tehran’s ambassador. This was announced by a spokesman. The conversation is currently taking place in the ministry, he said. The federal government was reacting to the German ambassador in Tehran being summoned to the Foreign Ministry there on Sunday.

This justified the summons with the “irresponsible positions” of Germany, but also France and Great Britain, whose ambassadors had also been summoned. On Sunday night, Iran directly attacked its arch-enemy Israel for the first time in the history of the Islamic Republic.

Israel’s army reported around 300 rockets, drones and cruise missiles, almost all of which were intercepted. Iran portrayed the operation, entitled “Sincere Promise,” as retaliation for the killing of high-ranking officers in Syria. The German government strongly condemns the attack. This is “clearly contrary to international law and cannot be justified in any way,” said a spokesman for the Foreign Office. Deputy government spokeswoman Christiane Hoffmann assured that in this case too, “Germany would stand in solidarity with Israel.”
