Real estate: a castle in Essonne sold 43 ME…

(Boursier.com) — Located in Essonne, 35 km south-east of Paris, the Château du Marais, built between 1772 and 1780 by the architect Jean Benoît Vincent Barré, is one of the most beautiful French castles in the Louis XVI period.

Its park, designed in the 1900s, is dotted over 35 hectares with centuries-old trees. It is marked in its center by a water mirror 550 meters long.

In 1897, the castle was acquired by Count Boniface de Castellane who married the wealthy American heiress Anna Gould. Until very recently, the property belonged to their heirs… But the costs necessary for the maintenance of this complex led to the castle being put up for sale.

According to Bloomberg, a change of ownership took place this summer. It was the Czech billionaire Daniel Kretinsky who took possession of the premises in exchange for a check which would amount to 43 ME. He would intend to transform the residence into a luxury hotel.
