Already released in India, the Realme C33 is making a breakthrough in France. With its new entry-level model, the Chinese firm wants to establish itself among smartphones under 200 €. To do this, she puts the package, finally according to her.

As always with Realme, one of the main accents is on design. To stand out from products that are always fairly basic – especially when it comes to inexpensive models – the company relies on original colors and finishes. This time, the back of the smartphone is reflective, producing a dynamic effect from different angles. A process that is reminiscent of that of lenticular imaging. The whole thing seems to be sprinkled with glitter, reinforcing the shiny look that Realme says is “comparable to the shimmer of light on the surface of water”. Everyone will have their own opinion. In France, the smartphone will be available in Sandy Gold and Night Sea colors, but not in its blue variant.

But since beauty does not make the smartphone, let’s tackle its technical sheet. For its entry-level, Realme has chosen a 6.5-inch IPS LCD panel with a drop-shaped notch. It ignores any screen refresh higher than 60 Hz and is content with an HD + definition (1600 x 720 pixels), a penalizing decision when you know that one of its competitors – the Xiaomi Redmi Note 11, for do not name it – has an Amoled FHD + panel with a refresh rate of 90 Hz. In photo, a 50 megapixel module is coupled to a depth sensor. A somewhat stingy proposition; we therefore hope that this module is up to the task. The front notch accommodates a camera with a definition of 5 megapixels.

To run the whole thing, Realme opts for the Unisoc T612 platform, accompanied by 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. A generous 5000 mAh battery is integrated, promising a comfortable autonomy, supported by a “super autonomy” mode activating at 5% of remaining battery and promising, for example, four hours of Spotify listening before extinction. The charging power is however unknown.

The release of the C33 will be under Android 12 – we dare to hope for a switch to Android 13 in the course of the year 2023. On the price side, it will be necessary to count 179 €, for an announced availability “in the next weeks”.
