More sustainable and simple design
According to Realme, the Realme GT 2 Pro is a first: the display is the world’s first AMOLED display with 2K resolution. The screen has a refresh rate of up to 120 Hertz and should still be energy-saving. The smoother scrolling is only partially noticeable in everyday use. The display is bright and provides enough power to read information even in sunlight.
Realme GT 2 Pro: Fisheye for smartphones
In 2014, all self-respecting vloggers on YouTube relied on the fisheye optics of the Canon Legria Mini. In the meantime, this style has largely disappeared from the scene, now Realme is bringing it out from behind the oven: The Realme GT 2 Pro has an ultra-wide-angle lens with 50 megapixels (MP) that is able to capture the fisheye optics – images are created with it high curvature. It is the first ultra wide-angle camera that covers up to 150 degrees. This is a nice gimmick, but only with limited added value. The curvature can be mapped in two different outputs: either captured in a normal image or exposed as a lens.
The Realme GT 2 Pro takes good photos in daylight. The images are sharp, true to color and also show details in the background. Up to 20x magnification is possible with the main camera – from then on the pictures noticeably lose detail and look more painted. This is different with smaller zoom levels. With a fourfold magnification, the images hardly lose any quality.
The front camera is located on the front in the upper left corner. In daylight, the Knipse shoots good self-portraits. The focus is clearly on the person in the foreground. Details in the background appear blurry at times. Nevertheless, a clear difference to the portrait mode can be seen – the background is only dimly recognizable. The shots are also pleasing due to the deactivated beauty filter. When using the main camera, additional filters can be used to change the background of the portrait shot.
Fast, faster, Realme GT 2 Pro?
Enough power for long days?
The battery has a capacity of 5,000 mAh and can be charged with the included 65 watt power supply. The other models in the GT series also offer similar bangers. With moderate use, you can get through the day with the built-in power dispenser. But with demanding mobile games, the battery sinks quickly – that’s when the quick charge function comes into play.
Realme GT 2: The alternative without Pro
Realme GT 2 Pro: prices, colors, availability
After the presentation in China, the Realme GT 2 Pro is now also available in Germany. It comes in three color variants: Paper White (white), Paper Green (light green) and Steel Black (black). The version with 8 GB RAM and 128 GB internal memory cost 749 euros at the start of sales – Realme called 849.99 euros for the tested version with 12 GB RAM and 256 GB internal memory. Since March 2022, the prices for the smartphone have dropped significantly in some cases: the version with 256 GB of internal memory is now available for just under 700 euros, and the version with 128 GB of internal memory sometimes only costs 695 euros (as of April 2022).
Realme GT 2 Pro: conclusion of the practical test
The Realme GT 2 Pro surprises in several ways: The smartphone is worthy of a top model and combines several strengths. The display is bright and offers a high refresh rate. In addition, there is a powerful processor that puts Samsung’s current S-Class in the shade. The battery is only of average size, but thanks to the powerful power pack, it quickly fills up again and is ready for further gaming or photo sessions. Speaking of photos: With the microscope mode and the fisheye lens, the camera of the Realme GT 2 Pro has two special features that are well implemented. With the other special modes and filters, they make the smartphone an ideal device for everyone who likes to experiment with the smartphone camera. Advantages such as the more sustainable design and the long update guarantee are almost in the background.
