realme does not allow time to bring the pressure down. Launched on a frantic pace of release, the rising manufacturer yesterday unveiled two new smartphones which are likely to hit hard on the entry level.
Like many competitors like the Redmi Note 11, realme has chosen a segmentation essentially based on 5G compatibility.
realme 9: the muscular entry-level
Much more affordable than a realme 9 Pro+, the realme 9 represents the most accessible part of the manufacturer’s new range.
It is equipped with a 6.4 “Super AMOLED 90 Hz screen offering Full HD + definition, and equipped with a punch revealing a 16 megapixel front camera. A fingerprint sensor is hidden under the screen and allows you to unlock the phone with your fingertip.
The phone is powered by a Snapdragon 680 chip, whose modem is limited to 4G. Its CPU has 8 cores, and will be backed by 6 GB of RAM for 128 GB of storage. An SD card slot provides additional disk space.
In photos, the realme 9 has a 108-megapixel (1/1.67″, ƒ/1.8) wide-angle main module, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle (1/4.0″, ƒ/2.2) and a 2 megapixel macro module. The front camera will have 16 megapixels.
Finally, a 5000 mAh battery completes the whole thing, and can be recharged at 33 W to recover approximately 50% autonomy in 30 minutes. The phone is protected by Gorilla Glass 5, but is not IP certified against dust and splashes.
realme 9 5G: a very different smartphone
realme is taking a very strange approach with its new lineup. As you will see, it is difficult to know if the realme 9 5G is better than the classic realme 9.
The phone offers a 6.6″ screen clocked at 120 Hz, but there is a “but”. Here we go back to an LCD panel, offering modest contrasts and lower brightness.
On the performance side, the Snapdragon 695 5G that it embeds could make a small difference in game thanks to a slightly more muscular GPU. However, the phone only has 4 GB of RAM, with 64 or 128 GB of storage.
In the photo, we retrograde. The main sensor becomes a much smaller 50 megapixel module (1/2.76″; ƒ/1.8), and the ultra wide-angle becomes a somewhat gimmicky depth sensor. The macro module remains in place.
The battery retains its capacity of 5,000 mAh, but only recharges at 18 W. In terms of protection, the realme 9 5G is as well equipped as its cousin.
realme 9 and realme 9 5G: prices and availability
realme has launched the pre-order campaign for its new models on its site, but has not yet announced a release date. The realme 9 comes in three colors (gold, white, black) and the realme 9 5G in two (white and black). Here is their price list.

Rather odd then, that the 4G model is priced higher than the one that offers advanced connectivity. However, we have seen that their differences are not limited to this detail.
