Recall at Mercedes: 5,600 vehicles affected in Switzerland

Bern (awp/ats) – About 5,600 vehicles are affected in Switzerland by the recall of cars from the German manufacturer Mercedes-Benz. A potential problem in the brake system is involved.

“We are currently informing their owners and asking them to contact their Mercedes-Benz representative for further details,” the press office of Mercedes-Benz Switzerland told Keystone-ATS on Tuesday.

According to the German Federal Transport Authority (KBA), the manufacturer is recalling nearly one million models worldwide. These are models dating from the years 2004 to 2015 of the SUV ML and GL series, as well as the luxury R-Class minivan, according to a KBA statement dated June 1.

“A corrosion of the brake booster can, in the worst case, cause a break in the connection between the brake pedal and the braking system,” said the KBA, quoted by AFP on Saturday. “The service brake may in this case stop working,” she added.

The brake booster is a device installed in a hydraulic brake circuit that increases the force applied to the master cylinder.
