The risk group has recently been given free FFP2 masks in pharmacies. Several recalls have now been issued – there are masks in circulation that do not protect.

The time has come since mid-December: People aged 60 and over and those with previous illnesses can pick up free FFP2 masks from pharmacies. This is to better protect the risk group from the coronavirus in everyday life. But precisely this protection could now be endangered – because now several recalls have been issued for the masks.

Recall of KN95 masks

Several masks of the categories KN95 and FFP2 are said to have a reduced protective effect. The filter function does not keep what it promises and the mask could let particles through. In total, produktwarnung.eu is currently warning of five products:

The "produktwarnung.eu" portal currently expressly warns against issuing or accepting masks without official certificates or documents that confirm their effectiveness. Even if pharmacies are faced with the challenge of quickly procuring a large number of FFP2 masks in order to supply the risk group with them, their protective effect should always be checked. In case of doubt, you can ask at the pharmacy which masks will be given out or have the confirmation of the filter performance shown.
