The Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety warns against consuming a certain paprika salami. The reason: dangerous bacteria were detected.

Whether breakfast or dinner, for many people salami is part of a delicious snack. But everyone who buys in branches of the retail chain “Globus” should take a close look at the packaging of the sausage when they reach into the refrigerator. Because the manufacturer Zentrale Handelsgesellschaft mbH Offenburg (ZHG) has published a recall about a pepper salami.

Recall: pepper salami

The bacterium enterohaemorrhagic E. coli (STEC) was detected in samples during a routine check. Specifically, it is about this product:

  • “Every day” paprika salami
  • 200 gram pack
  • Best before date: 05/29/2021
  • Batch number: 1104
  • Affected federal states: Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Bremen, Hesse, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Thuringia

The product was only sold in Globus supermarkets and has already been taken out of the range. In the press release, the ZHG refers to the Robert Koch Institute and explains that an “illness usually manifests itself within a week after infection with diarrhea and abdominal cramps”. “Infants, toddlers, the elderly and people with a weakened immune system in particular can develop more severe disease with bloody diarrhea,” it continues. Medical help should be sought if persistent or severe symptoms develop.

Customers who have purchased the product should therefore not consume it, but rather bring it back to the store. The purchase price will be reimbursed even without presenting a receipt.
