The Ministry in Schleswig-Holstein has published a nationwide recall for certain FFP2 masks. The masks are said to favor a corona infection.

At least since the medical mask requirement in public transport and shops, everyone has equipped themselves with them: Currently, masses of FFP2 masks can be bought in stores. However, a recall has now been reported again. This time the Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Youth, Family and Seniors of the State of Schleswig-Holstein is officially warning.

Inadequate masks can promote corona transmission

According to information from the health department, KN95 masks are currently in circulation that have insufficient protection. It cannot be ruled out that the masks could even promote the transmission of a corona infection, writes the ministry in a press release on the website.

Are concrete following masks from the recall affected:

  • "KN95 Protective Mask"
  • Model No: ZX-168,
  • GB-2626-2006

The product should have clear defects. The masks would also not meet the requirements of the SARS-CoV-2 occupational health and safety ordinance. They are therefore no longer allowed to be used in the medical field, for example in old people's and nursing homes. The masks are sold in white packaging with light green / red lettering. A number is printed on the KN95 mask itself, but the CE identification is missing.

The CE mark is currently a good way to check whether it could be a fake FFP2 mask. The masks should all have such a number printed on them, as they confirm that the product has been tested for sale in the EU. The protective effect must therefore have at least 94 percent filter function in order to receive a label.

The affected KN95 masks should no longer be used. It is currently not known through which distribution channels the masks came into circulation, so everyone should check their products once to be on the safe side.
