The supermarket chain “Rewe” has issued a recall. The affected frozen pizza should no longer be eaten as it may contain large plastic particles.

Melted cheese, tomato sauce, fluffy dough, we want to taste all these things when we bite into a hot pizza. On the other hand, it should only crack when the bottom is crispy, please. That’s why pizza fans should now please check their freezer: Large pieces of plastic are said to have been found in one type of pizza.

Frozen pizza recall due to plastic particles

Freiberger Lebensmittel GmbH announced this in a recall. It cannot be ruled out that there is transparent hard plastic in several batches of a frozen pizza branded “Beste Wahl” from “Rewe”. The plastic particles should have a size of 1.5 cm x 2 cm. The pizza is sold in Rewe branches across Germany.

The consumption of frozen pizza is therefore strongly discouraged and warned of possible health hazards due to the sharp particles. Several batches of the following variety are affected:

  • Pizza Classica TexMex with beef, jalapenos, corn and peppers
  • Brand: “REWE Best Choice”
  • In the 350 gram pack
  • With the best before dates: 06.2023; Batch number: L2262, 07.2023; batch number: L2279 and 07.2023; Batch number: L2287

The affected batches of frozen pizza are said to have already been removed from supermarket shelves. According to the manufacturer, other varieties are not affected. If you already have the pizza in the freezer, you can bring it back to a Rewe branch. There, customers should be reimbursed the purchase price even without presenting a receipt.

Just a few days ago, a warning was issued about other products: A mold toxin was detected in rice from several supermarkets. Spaghetti with tomato sauce was also recalled. Neither should be eaten anymore.
