The discounter Lidl is recalling an organic almond butter. The product could have been contaminated by peanuts. Allergy sufferers in particular should therefore not consume it under any circumstances.

Nut butters are currently very popular. Whether for breakfast, for baking, for porridge or for cooking: almond butter, peanut butter etc. can be found in many households. Allergy sufferers in particular like to use the almond alternative. But that could now be dangerous, at least when it comes to Lidl’s organic almond butter. Because of possible contamination with peanuts, the discounter is recalling the nut butter. According to the “Deutscher Presse-Agentur” (dpa), the “Maribel organic almond butter brown, 250g” is affected by the Lidl recall.

It cannot be ruled out that peanuts in the jars with the Best before dates 01/29/2024 and 01/30/2024 are included, said the manufacturer Papayiannis Bros SA on Thursday in Larissa, Greece, and via the foodwarning.de portal.

Those affected can return the almond butter to the branch

The organic almond butter can be returned to all Lidl branches. Customers get their money back even without a receipt. “Due to the possible allergic reaction from consumption, people with a peanut allergy should be aware of the recall and should not consume the affected product under any circumstances,” it said. If allergic reactions occur, those affected should consult a doctor immediately. However, those who are not allergic to peanuts can eat the product without any problems.

Product recalls are not uncommon

Just recently, DM and Rossmann had to recall one that was contaminated with bitter almonds, which can be poisonous. Kaufland also recently had to recall a cheese. One was infected with listeria, which can be particularly dangerous for pregnant women, the elderly or people with weakened immune systems.
