Recall: Popular cheese brand contaminated with plastic fragments

A recall has been issued for a popular type of cheese. The product was sold in several federal states and should no longer be eaten.

There is another recall for cheese. This time it was published by DMK Deutsches Milchkontor GmbH (DMK Group). It is a variety of the "Milram" cheese brand that is sold in several federal states throughout Germany.

Recall of a popular type of cheese

The following product is specifically affected by the recall:

  • MILRAM caraway cheese
  • 45 percent fat
  • in slices
  • in the 150 gram pack
  • Manufacturer: DMK Deutsches Milchkontor GmbH, DMK Group for short
  • Best before date: 16.12.2020

Health hazard from plastic particles

The information should be directly recognizable on the packaging. The reason for the recall is "preventive consumer protection". This means: the manufacturer of the cheese cannot currently rule out the possibility of hard plastic particles in the product. The DMK Group therefore warns of a direct health risk from foreign bodies in cheese.

So if you still have the pack at home, you should dispose of it. Alternatively, customers can also return the cheese to the shop they have visited. You should then be reimbursed the purchase price even without submitting a receipt.

According to the manufacturer's press release, Milram cheese was only sold in branches of the "Real" supermarket chain. The federal states are affected Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Schleswig-Holstein, Hamburg and Bremen.

The DMK Group also informs that the trade has already been informed and that the cheese affected by the recall has been taken off the shelf. Other products or best-before dates should not be affected. In the event of uncertainties or questions, customers can also contact the DMK customer hotline directly on 0251 26567371.

Caution is currently required: There is also a recall from the Rhöner Hofkäserei after Salmonella was detected in a type of cheese.
