Records broken – all expectations for ball season were exceeded

The Viennese balls are hotter than ever. The past season brought new records for visitors and sales. There is a big plus with tourists.

At the beginning of this year’s ball season, the Vienna Chamber of Commerce expected a slight increase compared to last year’s record number of visitors. But the already high expectations were once again exceeded: with around 560,000 visitors, who generated more than 185 million euros in sales, a new record was reached. “The Vienna Balls have earned an excellent international reputation, which ultimately made the difference,” says tourism chairman of the WK Vienna Markus Grießler. The tourism industry is particularly pleased by the increase in international ball guests – from 10,000 to 30,000 – and shows great potential for the coming years. The Chamber of Commerce’s analysis also shows that the audience is mixed in terms of age. “A visit to a ball is very popular with young people,” says Grießler. The study on the past ball season, prepared by SME Research Austria, also provides insight into the individual areas of value creation: the largest increase in spending of 45 percent was in the areas of dinner the ball and hairdresser/cosmetics. On average, ball guests spent 330 euros.
