Red Bull Golden Letters Spag Tekken 7 program

Spag had teased the project for a few months, and took advantage of his time on the Tekken France Tour as a commentator for the international stream, to specify that information would be given quickly.. Three days later, he kept his word by presenting the Red Bull Golden Letters, an event in a new format, but which is reminiscent of another tournament also organized by the brand of energy drinks.

A format that is both classic and original

For those familiar with competition on Tekken 7, the format will seem very traditional. The rounds will last 60 seconds, you will have to win 3 of them to validate a match. The matches are played in FT3 (BO5), which means that the first to win 3 matches wins the set and advances to the next round. As usual the stage is chosen randomly for the first match (for neophytes, the combat arena can favor certain characters who have good combos if the opponent is close to a wall, hence the importance of this rule), but the loser can change it after his defeat. If the winner is obliged to keep his character for the other matches of the set, the adversary can change him. A small subtlety must be specified, it is that the loser can choose the stage if he keeps the fighter with whom he lost, but if he selects a new one, the stage will be chosen again randomly. Costumes 3 and 4 of Jack-7 as well as costume 3 of Gigas are banned (this only concerns costumes, the characters can be played but not with these specific costumes).

So far nothing abnormal, but an additional rule has been added. If a player wins 3 rounds with Perfect (ie without losing life) or with Great (with very little life remaining), he will automatically qualify regardless of the score. Even trailing by 2 games to nil, a player could therefore win a set without having won a single game.

Arslan Ash one of the best players on the planet

A legacy of Red Bull Kumite?

Those who follow the Street Fighter scene will not be lost with the organization of the event which will be very reminiscent of the other famous event of the brand with the red bull. The event will also take place again in London, like one of last year’s Kumite, won by Mister Crimson. The main tournament will be an invitational, featuring some of the best players in the world. So far only two names have been confirmed: Arslan Ash and Anakin, two top players sponsored by the organizer. Other names will surely be announced in the coming weeks.

This final tournament will take place on March 27, but an Open Qualifier will be organized on March 26, after which 4 players will win a ticket for the main event. Registration is done directly on the website of Red Bull, and places are limited to 96 players. Some big names from the European scene are already among the registrants: Sephiblack, Tetsu, Fergus, Roo Kang, Chickenmaru, Caiper, Pikah and Tibetano.

The most famous FGC event returns in August 2022 for its annual edition. That night, organizers announced nine titles that will make the main line-up. A special stream had been organized for the occasion.
