Red Cross balance – 2.14 million volunteer hours

The General Assembly of the Styrian Red Cross took place on Monday in the soap factory in Graz. Impressive figures for the year 2021 were presented, which, in addition to the daily tasks, also shed light on the demanding Corona mission.

“We are starting to record and shape the time after Corona. It is up to all of us whether we will emerge stronger from this pandemic and perhaps arrive in a better society. Even during this health crisis, the Red Cross showed what it can do. It never hesitated – it did what it was committed to: We are there to help, ”said Rotkreuz President Werner Weinhofer, underlining the achievements of his organization.

The Styrian Red Cross welcomed numerous guests of honor, including Governor Hermann Schützenhöfer, hundreds of delegates, officials, volunteers and professionals. “Since the outbreak of the corona epidemic, the employees of the Red Cross have once again demonstrated their unconditional commitment to their fellow human beings. The balance clearly shows how great the value is for the security of the population. After a particularly challenging year, I cannot say thank you enough on behalf of the entire state, ”said Governor Hermann Schützenhöfer.

Under the motto “Improving the lives of people in need and the socially disadvantaged through the power of humanity”, 9572 volunteers and 1,819 professional employees worked around the clock for the Styrian population. 2.14 million hours with a saving of 64.13 million euros were done on a voluntary basis. In addition to the demanding regular operation – an ambulance was called every 54.86 seconds – the Red Cross played a central role in fighting the pandemic. It placed volunteers and people doing community service, organized the mobile medical service, continues to carry out hundreds of tests every day and supports the authorities and thus the Styrian population in many areas.
