Red Cross, Restos du coeur, Telethon… The top 20 donations from the French

To which association do the French give the most? At the Telethon a few years ago. At Restos du coeur for the last two years. And to the Red Cross this year, according to data from the Recherches & Solidarités network, which relates to donations made in 2022.

Long dominated by the French Association against myopathies, because of Telethon, the list of the main associations recipients of the generosity of the French moved 2 years ago for the benefit of Restos du coeur and for the benefit of the Red Cross this year.

Here are the top 20, based on the annual study by the Recherches & Solidarités network, published this Friday, November 24.

“The cumulative amounts of the first 5 collections is less than 9% of what the French donated”

“Contrary to popular belief, the cumulative amounts of the first 5 collections is less than 9% of what the French donated in 2022”, specifies the Recherches & Solidarités network, an association bringing together numerous academics and personalities seeking to document the generosity, volunteering or more generally the associative movement in France. More generally, the amount received by the first 40 collecting organizations “does not exceed the proportion of 25%, which leaves a very large space for all other associations and foundations”.

Tax reductions of 66% or 75%: what annual reduction?

As a reminder, donations offering a 75% tax reduction are from organizations helping the most deprived. On average, according to the tax administration, 1.85 million tax households benefit from this 75% tax reduction, for an average tax advantage of 236 euros.

And 3.26 million households declare donations to other associations of general interest, for an average reduction of 384 euros.

In all cases, these are tax reductions and not tax credits, which means that non-taxable households give without benefiting from any tax advantages. Out of pure generosity. About a quarter of donors are tax-free.
