Russian ambassador attacked in Warsaw

In the Polish capital of Warsaw, the Russian ambassador wants to commemorate the fallen Soviet soldiers in World War II at a cemetery. Several demonstrators insult him. After attacks with red paint, the representative of Moscow turns back.

In Poland, protesters sprayed red liquid on Russia’s ambassadors and prevented them from laying flowers in a cemetery for Soviet soldiers. When the delegation led by Russian ambassador Sergey Andreyev appeared at Warsaw’s mausoleum cemetery, numerous Ukrainian and Polish demonstrators greeted them with shouts of “murderers” and “fascists,” the PAP news agency reported. Andreev was therefore doused with a red substance. The Ambassador and the delegation then returned to their official cars.

On May 9th, Russia commemorates Victory Day over Nazi Germany. The Mausoleum Cemetery in Warsaw was laid out a few years after the end of World War II and has the character of a large park. The remains of more than 20,000 soldiers who fell in 1944 and 1945 are buried there.

Poland has taken in more than 3.2 million refugees from its eastern neighbor since Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine began on February 24.
