Reddit gets a “Discover” tab on mobile

Reddit
has added a new section on its mobile application called “Discover”, very inspired byinstagram
. By going to the tab, it is possible to browse GIFs, photos and videos in bulk to help find new communities.

It had been two years since the American forum with 50 million daily users had not hosted a new section.

Reddit is full of forums all as varied as each other, which have accumulated constantly since the creation of the site in 2005, so much so that it is now very difficult for users to discover new things when leaving of their content bubble. That’s why Reddit now offers a “Discover” section on its mobile application, which allows you to browse endlessly through a large selection of images, GIFs and videos from very different subreddits.

But, like an Instagram, this section will also be based, if you are a logged-in user, on your areas of interest and will offer you priority themes related to what you like. This seems to work since, in their blog post published today, the Reddit teams report that during testing, one in five users who used the section ended up joining a new community.

It is also possible to filter the content that is offered either by selecting specific themes to display, or by selecting “show more of this content”, “show less of this content” or “hide this content”. If the sauce takes well, Reddit does not rule out improving its services or even its design by taking inspiration from the section.
