Announced at the end of last year in China, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 12, a series positioned between entry and mid-range, was long overdue on the European smartphone market. Here they are official, and available on French territory, four in number. If a Redmi Note 12 Turbo is expected on March 28 in China, and although a Discovery Edition remains exclusive to the Middle Kingdom, the Redmi Note 12, Redmi Note 12 5G, Redmi Note 12 Pro and Redmi Note 12 Pro+ are well there.
The technical data sheets of these four smartphones are already known, starting with that of the Redmi Note 12. The 4G and 5G versions of the smartphone sport the same 6.67-inch screen, Amoled, displaying Full HD up to 120 Hz. Both are below the 190 gram mark, while carrying a 5000 mAh battery compatible with a 33 W charge. Their modem not being the same, they deviate on the ground from the chipsets : if the Redmi Note 12 4G is equipped with a Snapdragon 685 chip, the Note 12 5G relies on a Snapdragon 4 Gen 1, a recent Qualcomm chip, but which we have not yet had the opportunity to test in lab. Both chips are flanked by 4 GB of RAM.
Let’s end the difference game with two points. First the storage, which amounts to 64 or 128 GB for the Note 12 and which starts at 128 GB for the Note 12 5G. Finally, on the photo component, both are equipped with an 8 Mpx sensor associated with ultra-wide-angle optics, and another 2 Mpx dedicated to macro. However, their main sensor differs. The Redmi Note 12 5G offers a 48 Mpx one, while that of the Note 12 4G reaches 50 Mpx. It will therefore be important for us to check whether these photo choices are judicious.
The rates, which were the last element missing from the call, are now known. It takes a starting price of 199 € for the Redmi Note 12 4G (4/64 GB), the price of the Redmi Note 11 (only 4G) at launch, and 249 € for its 4/128 GB version. Xiaomi charges €299 for the Redmi Note 12 5G.
A mid-range 200MP photo sensor
The Pro versions of the Redmi Note 12 are two in number. Whether it’s the Redmi Note 12 Pro or the Redmi Note 12 Pro+, the user is entitled to a 6.67-inch screen, Oled, Full HD+ and up to 120 Hz. These two models compatible with the 5G is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 1080 chip. The Redmi Note 12 Pro + deviates from its little brother in terms of RAM and storage, since it is only offered in an 8/256 GB version in France, while the Note 12 Pro is entitled to three versions (6/128, 8/128 and 8/256 GB). It should be noted that they do not have microSD ports, unlike the “classic” Redmi Note 12s.
The Redmi Note 12 Pro has a photo block comparable to that of the Note 12, although we note that its wide-angle, stabilized optics are more worked. The Note 12 Pro + is however the most original, since it offers a main sensor of 200 megapixels, which is a first at its price level. Its price, let us specify, is established at 499 €. The Redmi Note 12 Pro costs 399, 429 or 469 € depending on the version chosen.
