Rédoine Faïd: this extremely rare security measure to which the robber is subjected in prison

Imprisoned for a robbery and awaiting his trial for escape, Rédoine Faïd is imprisoned under strict conditions. The robber discussed for three years with a journalist from the JDD who publishes a book.

An incredible story. For the past three years, journalist Plana Radenovic has corresponded regularly with Rédoine Faïd, whom she met in the visiting room for the first time in 2019. From her discussions with the imprisoned robber, the reporter for Le Journal du dimanche unveils a book, which will be published this Thursday January 26. From his prison in Vendin-le-Vieil (Pas-de-Calais), he wanted to “denounce his placement in permanent isolation”. Specializing in attacking armored vans, Rédoine Faïd escaped several times from the penitentiaries where he was imprisoned. First on April 13, 2013 from the Lille-Loos-Sequedin prison center using explosives and after taking four people hostage. Arrested, he once again bypassed security. On July 1, 2018, he escaped by helicopter from the southern Ile-de-France penitentiary center to Réau.

After three months on the run, Rédoine Faïd was arrested on October 3, 2018 in the morning in Creil. Since then, the conditions of his detention have tightened. “With his beauty ace CV, he is considered very dangerous, which logically makes him one of the most watched prisoners in France”explains Plana Radenovic in his book, which reveals that the robber is “alone in the cell, he also walks alone, in a shady courtyard with a mesh roof”. Placed in solitary confinement, he lives in 7m2 with a bed and a toilet. “We are immured alive. We survive out of time, in total autarky. We are beings without contact, waiting for the end of life”, wrote Rédoine Faïd to the journalist. According to her, the criminal can only discuss with his visitors with a hygiaphone, a measure which concerns only very few detainees in France.

Rédoine Faïd: soon to be tried for his escape

“One minute after entering the hygiaphone visiting room, [ma soeur] had a fit of claustrophobia, we had to take her to the hospital. I haven’t seen her againthe prisoner wrote to Plana Radenovic. Most of my relatives refuse to see me like that so they don’t come.” As a reminder, Rédoine Faïd was sentenced on March 13, 2020, to 28 years of criminal imprisonment for theft in an organized gang with the threat of a weapon, destruction of property of others, violence in meetings and association of criminals. This year he is set to stand trial again for his latest spectacular escape. Placed in solitary confinement in one of the most secure prisons in France, the robber had started a hunger and thirst strike before being transferred to Fleury-Mérogis.
