Looking ahead to autumn and winter, it won’t be long until the heating season starts again. If you want to save a little money, you can use smart radiator thermostats, among other things. They can be used to set the temperature in a room much more precisely, and various automations (night setback, vacation, etc.) can also be used.
Magnion devices are currently on offer in the Aldi online shop. The discounter sells the thermostats individually, in a double pack and in a double pack with a control center. This is important if you want to control the thermostats remotely.
The setting range is between 5 and 30 degrees Celsius. The anti-frost function prevents excessive cooling. If the temperature falls below 5 degrees Celsius, a switched off thermostat will automatically open until the temperature is 8 degrees Celsius.
Magnion thermostats operate via the Zigbee standard, which is widely used. You can use the associated app to use preset and individual heating cycles and scenarios to heat according to your daily routine. This means you can lower the heating when you go to work and automatically turn it up when you get home.
The thermostats detect open windows and automatically lower the temperature. In away mode, the temperature is kept constant at 16 degrees Celsius. There is also protection against calcification of the valves. Two AA batteries are required for operation, which are included in the scope of delivery. According to the manufacturer, they have a lifespan of around one year. If the battery level is low, you will receive a message about the need to replace it.
Also included in the scope of delivery is an adapter set so that you can use the thermostats on all radiators. Thanks to the Zigbee standard, the devices can be integrated into other smart home systems. Voice control via Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant is also possible.
Assembly is very easy and should not be a problem even for beginners. You don’t need a craftsman, just a pair of pliers to loosen the clamp on the existing thermostat if in doubt. Installation and commissioning are explained simply in the enclosed operating instructions.
