Reduction of the discount at the pump from 30 to 10 cents: how to find a gas station

Bad news for motorists. From Wednesday, November 16, the government discount on the price of fuel at the pump will drop from 30 to 10 cents, until December 31, 2022. In this context, service stations, already faced with an influx of motorists, are taken by storm. According to Waze, the navigation application with 20 million active users per month in France, the frequentation of service stations increased by 43% in France from November 13 to 14, 2022 compared to the two previous days.

A new motorist assistance system should then see the light of day on January 1, 2023. “We are going to move towards a device which will concern those who need their vehicle the most to go to work and who are in the most difficulty in their daily lives because they cannot afford to pay for fuel which would be too on the rise”commented Olivier Véran, considering that the device to come would be “more targeted, fairer”. In the meantime, the drivers will have to redouble their stratagems to avoid the queues and find the precious liquid.

To find fuel, there are several online solutions. First, the government set up the prix-carburants.gouv.fr website, which offers an interactive map on which the name and address of each station are indicated. The rates charged are displayed, per litre, for each type of fuel. The absence of a price or the mention “Rupture de stock” indicates that the desired fuel is not available. The data is uploaded by the petrol stations themselves, which therefore leaves a possibility of error.

Another option: the Essence&CO application, available on iOS and Android, which also exists as a website. The mon-essence.fr site thus makes it possible to display stations located nearby, as well as the price and/or availability of fuel. With the shortage, the company also launched an interactive map penurie.mon-essence.fr which clearly displays the availability of fuels, the address as well as the various fuels that are out of stock. Everything is based on a community operation that allows greater responsiveness in terms of updating prices and stock status.
