Eintracht corrects injustice with the final whistle

Eintracht Frankfurt can no longer get on its feet after the sensational victory at Bayern Munich: The triumph is followed by three Bundesliga bankruptcies in a row. The youngest against RB Leipzig is very unfortunate, even if deserved.

Eintracht Frankfurt averted another setback in the Bundesliga at the last minute. With the last action of the game, Tuta scored the equalizer to 1: 1 (0: 1) against RB Leipzig. With so far only one win in ten games and only nine points, the Europa League participant is still in the lower half of the table. In front of 31,000 spectators on Saturday, Leipzig missed their first competitive success in Frankfurt despite the goal by Youssuf Poulsen (35th). So there was no tailwind for the Champions League hit on Wednesday against Paris Saint-Germain.

As is so often the case this season, the Eintracht play area seemed pretty headless, unimaginative and haphazard for long stretches. The last often shaky defense of the hosts was able to withstand more than half an hour against the Saxons, who dominated and acted wiser from the start, even though there were dicey situations. In the tenth minute, the guests had their first big chance: Amadou Haidara carefully lifted the ball into the penalty area and into Dominik Szoboszlai’s run, who extended to Poulsen. The Dane failed free-standing against Eintracht goalkeeper Kevin Trapp.

For the first time, the Hessians made a goal danger, albeit a little happy, in the 18th minute. A slightly warped cross from Filip Kostic flew over RB keeper Peter Gulacsi to the right crossbar. Frankfurt was also lucky two minutes later when Christopher Nkunku steered the ball with a heel onto the opposing goal, but Trapp again parried strongly. Poulsen puts the margin on the post. Shortly afterwards it was Kostic again who challenged Gulacsi with a hard shot from 25 meters, but could not overcome him. The Leipzigers made it 1-0 better, but not quite correctly. Willi Orban headed a corner from Szoboszlai to Poulsen, who shot the ball over the line somewhat acrobatically from close range. However, the corner was unjustified, as the Leipzig Josko Gvardiol had previously directed the ball out of the goal.

After the restart, the Frankfurt team went to work with great commitment and good tackle, but hardly found any gaps in the Leipzig defense. In contrast, the guests had the chance to increase to 2-0 in the 69th minute, but Nkunku failed because of the strong Eintracht goalkeeper Trapp. André Silva, who came on as a substitute in the 65th minute and scored 28 goals for Frankfurt last season, was unable to set any accents for the Leipzig team. Shortly before the end, substitute Emil Forsberg missed the huge chance to make it 2-0 when shot over the empty goal. That should take revenge when Tuta hit his head in stoppage time.
