Atakan Karazor is sent off with a yellow-red card against VfL Wolfsburg – and even the referee feels sorry for that. The decision is absurdly wrong, now VfB Stuttgart wants to ensure justice.
VfB Stuttgart is taking action against captain Atakan Karazor’s yellow-red card in the game at VfL Wolfsburg. The Swabian Bundesliga team lodged an objection against the expulsion with the German Football Association. The reason was that there was an obvious error by referee Sven Jablonski and the protest was therefore logical, according to a club statement.
“The referee apologized for his mistake, Atakan accepted this apology. That shows greatness,” said Fabian Wohlgemuth, sports director. Nevertheless, they had to do without the defense chief for 30 minutes in Wolfsburg (2:2) and “should this also be the case in the upcoming home game against TSG Hoffenheim? Double punishment cannot be in the spirit of fair play,” Wohlgemuth continued.

After the game, Jablonski described his decision as wrong. “I noticed a foul on Arnold, the player also held his ankle and said that he felt a stitch,” said Jablonski on Sky: “I have now seen the pictures and have to realize that it was Arnold Hitting his opponent was the wrong yellow-red, that really annoys me.”
However, video evidence may not be used in the event of a yellow card even if it results in a yellow-red result. So there was no support for Jablonski. After the game, the referee criticized the rules surprisingly clearly. “Even with yellow-red, I would like us to have the chance to go to the screen and check the scene,” said Jablonski. “Because that has a massive impact on the game.”
