Aue’s race to catch up ends bitterly

Jahn Regensburg just saved himself from relegation from the 2nd Bundesliga last season, now it’s going very differently: At the start of the 8th matchday, the team jumps back to the top of the table – thanks to a last-minute hit. Meanwhile, a candidate for permanent promotion is following suit.

Jahn Regensburg – FC Erzgebirge Aue 3: 2 (2: 0)

SSV Jahn Regensburg has for the time being recaptured the table lead in the 2nd Bundesliga with a tremendous win against FC Erzgebirge Aue. The Upper Palatinate won against the bottom of the table with 3: 2 (2: 0) and plunged the Saxons under interim coach Marc Hensel deeper into the crisis. Jan-Niklas Beste (7th), Max Besuschkow (11th) and Andreas Albers (90th) scored for Jahn, on the other hand Nicolas Kühn (52nd) and Gaetan Bussmann (87th) were successful. With now 17 points, Jahn overtook SC Paderborn, which will only receive Holstein Kiel on Saturday, at least for one night.

In front of 8127 spectators, the home side got off to a furious start and took their first chance. Besuschkow served outside striker Beste with a through pass, who easily pushed in to take the lead. A little later, Beste returned the favor with a corner that Besuschkow headed into the almost empty goal. The unsettled Saxons only found their way into the game in the middle of the first half and had at least one chance through Babacar Gueye (22nd).

Aue-Joker Kühn finally brought the guests back into play by converting an involuntary submission from Ben Zulinski. Suddenly the Saxons were the game-determining team and pushed for an equalizer. Bussman finally made the equalizer after half-time two deserved. But Albers released the home side in a dramatic final phase.

1. FC Heidenheim – SV Darmstadt 98 2: 1 (1: 0)

1. FC Heidenheim is meanwhile at least temporarily on a promotion place. Long-term coach Frank Schmidt’s team happily won 2-1 (1-0) against SV Darmstadt 98 and moved up to second place. In the intense game, the FCH took the lead with a penalty from Tobias Mohr (40th minute) after Tim Kleindienst had shot a penalty against the post (14th). Substitute Stefan Schimmer (84th) scored 2-1 shortly before the end after Phillip Tietz had equalized with his sixth goal of the season (52nd).

Darmstadt remains in the middle of the table and continues to wait for the first away win of the season. In the middle of the first half, Heidenheim took over the game more and more. Mohrs 1-0 was the deserved reward. However, Darmstadt came back into the game when Tietz scored 1-1 shortly after the break after a fatal bad pass from FCH defender Patrick Mainka. The hosts looked insecure afterwards, Darmstadt now had more of the game, but was not dangerous enough on the offensive. Then it was Schimmer who scored the third FCH victory in a row with a nice header.
