“When I was 20, I was often turned away from Castel because I didn’t come with enough pretty girls. So I went to New Jimmy’s with friends, because Régine really liked young people, and there I went. She always greeted me with a big smile, seemed happy to see me again, spoke to me as if we had always known each other. And above all, she was deeply kind, didn’t push for consumption, knowing that I didn’t have a lot of money.
“What I liked at New Jimmy’s was the music and the festive atmosphere, like at a popular ball. There were 80% rich people who came in Rolls or Porsches, 10% international celebrities and 10% young people from upmarket neighborhoods. She loved money and earning it and, at the same time, she didn’t care, she spent lavishly. What she wanted was for it to laugh, for it to move. I did three TV shows with her, no doubt because my name was Mitterrand and she was very fond of François Mitterrand.
