Regional superfoods: more valuable than you think

More and more superfoods are on the shelves of supermarkets. Whether chia seeds, spirulina powder or bee pollen – almost everything can now be bought in the shop around the corner. The hyped products from Hollywood are unfortunately not only outrageously expensive, they also push our effective, domestic products away from the consumer field of vision.

So that the good old heroes from the region are not forgotten, we have put together the most important products for you today. So you get a little closer to your summer glow and can rather invest the small change saved in your favorite ice cream at the Italian of your trust.

And don't forget – a balanced, varied diet is the key to your personal goal. The following candidates are helpful companions.

1. Flax seeds boost digestion

Who of us doesn't have the good old bag of chia seeds in the kitchen cupboard? The hype surrounding the product has been around for a few years, but it never feels like it stops. In the meantime, you can even get the black seeds from the discounter. In doing so, they wrongly outshine our domestic flax seeds: Flax seeds contain more omega-3 fatty acids than chia seeds and a lot of valuable fiber, which cleans your intestines and naturally stimulates digestion. In addition, they are a valuable source of protein. There is nothing standing in the way of your glow, because a healthy intestinal flora is particularly evident in your complexion. In addition, omega-3 fatty acids bring your metabolism into balance.

Anyone who now runs promisingly into the next market should be warned: 20 grams of flax seeds daily are good guidelines. More can have a laxative effect. You should also make sure you drink enough, at least two liters are recommended.

2. Millet for hair and nails

Quinoa, amaranth or buckwheat – who doesn't know the stars among the so-called pseudo-cereals? Little attention is paid to the millet. This is an excellent source of protein and iron and therefore worth gold for vegetarians. It also contains many important minerals and trace elements – these let our hair and nails sprout and our skin glow. Millet is gluten free and therefore well tolerated for intolerances or problems with the gastrointestinal tract.

By the way: millet can also be prepared as a sweet porridge for breakfast. Simply boil the millet with milk of your choice and let it simmer for ten minutes. Then sweeten and top as you like!

3. Power package blueberries

Goji berries, acai and Co. are hard to imagine. They should rejuvenate and additionally boost the metabolism. No wonder the amount of antioxidants, right? But blueberries are even better (not just for the wallet and the ice cream you are aiming for at the Italian) The berries' anthocyanin gives them their intense color, stimulates the metabolism and protects against cancer. They also contain more antioxidants than their exotic competition, which can usually only be bought dry. It renews our cells and fights wrinkles, acne and cellulite. What more do you want?

But the same applies here Beware of the crowd: more than 100 grams of blueberries a day have a laxative effect. The regional superstar also contains salicylic acid, which has a blood-thinning effect.

4. Kale brings us to our best

Anyone who grimaces in disgust and thinks of home cooking at the time should definitely read on. Kale contains an extremely high proportion of chlorophyll, which is said to effectively fight cancer cells, skin aging and fatigue.

200 grams alone cover the daily requirement of vitamins A and C and thus the nutrient package wins against overpriced spirulina powder and wheatgrass. If you are still not convinced, you should know that the price difference is around 20 euros per 100 grams – that's at least 14 scoops of ice cream. If that's not an argument …

5. Old friendship – the apple

Our apples are one of the best things you can do to yourself and your health. They contain a lot of fiber and pectins, which bring our digestion into balance and clean the intestine. They do it so well that they are even used to cure gastritis and gastrointestinal flu. If you haven't heard enough, you get another batch: apples lower cholesterol and even colon cancer risk.

If you need more variety, you can stop by our apple recipes and experience new culinary delights.

6. Goodbye stress with chamomile tea

Chamomile tea is a real miracle when it comes to tension, nervousness and stress. Chamomile flowers have a relaxing, anti-inflammatory and stress-relieving effect. Unfortunately, the miracle flower rarely gets the recognition it deserves. It often fades alongside its trendy opponent – the matcha powder. Same nutrients, but savings of six euros per hundred grams? You can confidently do without the fancy name of the competitor, right?
