From September, drivers can register their vehicles online and drive off immediately. The cabinet has passed a regulation that enables digital vehicle registration. The fees are cheaper and the waiting times are eliminated.
Around 20 million motor vehicles are newly registered or re-registered in Germany every year. Complaints about long waiting times at the authorities have been increasing for several years. From September everything should be easier. The cabinet approved digital vehicle registration today.
Immediately after registering the vehicle, it can also take part in road traffic. The owner no longer has to wait for the vehicle documents and stickers to be sent and can drive for up to ten days without them. The digital notification of admission serves as proof. In addition to the possibility of also applying for special license plates, such as E and H as well as seasonal license plates, via the Internet, for the first time legal entities, i.e. car dealerships or registration service providers, can also submit applications for the registration of a vehicle digitally via the existing i-Kfz portals at the handle authorities.
With the new regulation, the fees for vehicle registration are significantly cheaper than at the local authority. The Federal Council still has to approve the draft.
