Expected for March 29, the film adaptation of Super Mario Bros. has just aroused our curiosity a little more with a trailer rich in characters and references to the famous video game franchise. As the little mustachioed plumber would say: “Let’s Go!”.
Peach, Donkey and Rainbow Road
These images give us a first glimpse of Peach, dubbed in VO by Anya Taylor-Joy (The Ladies Game), and Donkey Kong (Seth Rogen). It is also the fair for winks of all kinds, with appearances by Mario Tanuki, the Flower of Fire or the Rainbow Road from Mario Kart. The older among us will also have recognized the references to the arcade game donkey kong from 1981, or the universe of the first adventures of the Italian plumber on the NES console.

Produced by Illumination Studios, behind popular franchises Me, ugly and mean and Minions, Super Mario Bros. the film is the first animated film derived from the franchise, and its second film adaptation after the infamous Super Mario Bros. in 1993.
The feature film is only a first step in audiovisual production for Nintendo. The Japanese firm recently founded Nintendo Pictures, an animation studio dedicated to producing films and series derived from multiple franchises such as Mario, Zelda and Pokemon. What if we were to witness the birth of a future giant of animated cinema?
Super Mario Bros. the film is expected on March 29, 2023 in French cinemas.
