DWS promises special dividend

The Deutsche Bank subsidiary DWS is the focus of investigators. The reason is the suspicion of false information about environmental protection and sustainability aspects of investments. Meanwhile, the company wants to keep investors’ spirits high with an additional distribution.

The fund company DWS, which has been confronted with allegations of fraudulent labeling of sustainable investments, wants to pay its shareholders an extraordinary dividend. In addition to an ordinary dividend for the 2023 financial year of 2.10 euros per share – five cents more than last – DWS is offering its investors an extraordinary payment of 4.00 euros per share, the SDax-listed subsidiary of Deutsche Bank announced .

The fund company is the focus of investigators because of allegations of so-called greenwashing. This concerns the suspicion of fraudulent labeling when it comes to information about environmental protection and sustainability aspects of investments. In this context, on January 16th there was a search at the DWS premises in Frankfurt. DWS had already received a visit from investigators at the end of May 2022.

At its Capital Markets Day 2022, DWS announced that it would pay out up to 1 billion euros as a special dividend in 2024 if this money is not used for “organic and inorganic growth initiatives”. The special distribution now announced amounts to 800 million euros.

The general meeting on June 6th must decide on the payment of the ordinary and extraordinary dividends. DWS Group GmbH & Co. KGaA will publish figures for the fourth quarter and the full year on February 1st.
