Reiner Calmund: "I couldn't beat the yo-yo effect anymore"

Reiner Calmund has lost 60 kilos after his stomach reduction. After another weight-loss project, he wasn't as "happy" as he is now.

The former Bundesliga manager Reiner Calmund (71) has lost almost 60 kilos in about nine months after a stomach reduction. And feels "very good", as he explains in an interview with the "Allgemeine Hotel- und Gastronomie-Zeitung" (ahgz). After his public weight loss attempt in 2009, things looked different, when the TV expert even completed a half marathon.

"My friend Joey Kelly supported me with my weight loss project. We were accompanied by a camera team," recalls Calmund. "I didn't do it primarily for RTL and VOX, but because I needed this public pressure." In the end, he weighed in with Günther Jauch. "I had lost the promised 30 kilos, but I was still 134 kilos. A few months after this good event it became angry. The calories marched towards me in company strength. Suddenly I weighed 40 to 45 kilos more. Me was pissed off. "

"The final starting shot for stomach reduction"

He later decided to have a stomach reduction surgery. "Professor Karcz from the University Clinic Munich and my OP professor Dr. Norbert Runkel from the Sana Clinic Offenbach made it clear to me that it is medically certain that the yo-yo effect could no longer be overcome in my situation. That was for me the final starting shot for stomach reduction ", explains the 71-year-old in the" ahgz "interview and added:" Prof. Runkel also shocked me with the statement that I built a fat foundation in my body at a young age would have."

That hit him "like a club", "because I was a slim footballer until my sports injury as a 19-year-old". Calmund also recounts his childhood: "After my father's death, my mother worked in a bakery. She cleaned in the morning, then sold and served in the café in the afternoon to help us both through. She brought cakes with her every day. As a young man I was still exercising intensively, and the calories had no effect. Later, after my injury, the sweet calories added extra pounds.

Calmund, who will be performing at an event in Lindenhof in Gotha on October 29th, is "happy now": "I continue to enjoy delicious food, but my stomach has made me full faster. That means: lose weight – but without hunger . A dream formula! "
