Reiner Calmund: That's why he was afraid of his stomach surgery

Reiner Calmund has lost more than 50 kilograms of weight through a stomach reduction. He had great respect for the operation.

Gourmet man Reiner Calmund (71) is a juror for the cooking show "Grill den Henssler" (VOX). The ex-football manager lost a whopping 54 kilograms through a stomach reduction. In an interview with "Welt am Sonntag" he talks about the fears that plagued him before the operation. He had only had one operation before, when his tonsils were removed over 60 years ago. "Then I felt like vomiting from ether anesthesia for two days." He was not actually scared, but various complications shot through his head on the way to the hospital.

His wife and children would not have accompanied him because he did not want them to see his fearful eyes. After the information talks with the doctors, the fear was largely gone. A friend helped him just before the operation. He asked him to "take care of my wife and daughter Nicha in case anything goes wrong."

Reiner Calmund: "I should have done the surgery ten years earlier"

He built up a "fat foundation" in his body early on. As a bakery seller, his mother brought cakes with him every day and he was a big fan of pastries. "As a young man, I was still doing a lot of sport, because the calories had no effect. Later, after my injury, they then caused additional kilos. And that had the corresponding effect on Calli, a pleasure and stress eater," says Calmund.

He used to be well received by women. "I was healthy, fully capable, I traveled around the world, I had a power job. I thought I was good." 15 years ago, he then disturbed his body. "But then I was really really fat." At the peak, he weighed 180 kilograms. He chose the operating room for one simple reason: "I want to enjoy life with my wife, children and friends for many years to come." Today, with 54 kilos less, he feels "as light as a feather. This is really crazy, it is good for my body and soul. I should have done the surgery ten years earlier."

There will be new episodes of the VOX show "Grill den Henssler" from August 2nd (also via TVNow), then there will be a special edition at primetime with the duel Steffen Henssler (47) against Tim Mälzer (49). A week later, from August 9th at 8:15 p.m., the regular new episodes will start. Jury member Reiner Calmund is back again.
