Star Wars Outlaws is one of the next Star Wars video games to arrive on our consoles. An ambitious and promising title, yet still very mysterious. In this file, we take stock of what there is to know about this unprecedented adventure.
Star Wars games, there have been a lot. Some good ones, some not so good ones… but never before had a game based on the license been developed by Ubisoft. The error will soon be corrected with Star Wars Outlaws. Unveiled during Summer Game Fest 2023, it promises a dive into the heart of the criminal world and bets on an open world.

When will Star Wars Outlaws be released?
Star Wars Outlaws will be released in 2024. Ubisoft has not given a specific date and we will have to wait a bit to have more info. We don’t even know if the game will arrive at the beginning of the year or at the end of the year.
What platforms will Star Wars Outlaws be released on?
For now, Ubisoft did not communicate the platforms concerned by Star Wars Outlaws. Judging by the gameplay footage unveiled at Summer Game Fest, the title is likely to be exclusive to “new gen” consoles, i.e. PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. A PC release would also be considered.
How much will Star Wars Outlaws cost?
Star Wars Outlaws doesn’t have a price yet, but it should be sold as a classic AAA, that is to say at 80 euros on consoles and 70 euros on PC. We can also expect Deluxe and Collector’s Editions… as usual.
Who is developing Star Wars Outlaws?
star wars outlaws is developed by Massive Entertainmenta Swedish studio that has been owned by Ubisoft since 2008. The Malmö-based developer rose to prominence in the late 1990s with the game Ground Control, a well-made 3D RTS, then had success with World in Conflict in 2007.
But it was in 2016 that Massive becomes a top studio with The Division, multiplayer shooter, then with its sequel in 2019. The Division is now a flagship license of Ubisoft and the developers have the confidence of the publisher. It was only natural that they would be entrusted with this Star Wars game.
What is the game system of Star Wars Outlaws?
Star Wars Outlaws is a third-person action game who wants to mix several different gameplay. The video unveiled during Ubisoft Forward 2023 shows us an infiltration phase in an enemy base. Obviously, it is possible to stun enemies from behind, but also to call on Nix, the small creature that accompanies the player, to distract them. If things get out of hand, just whip out the blaster in action sequences that look classic, but effective.
Outlaws takes place in an open world and therefore Massive had the good idea to vary the gameplay. Exploration is highlighted with huge planets that it will be possible to travel by Motojet. Moreover, a bounty system, which resembles that of the stars of GTA, is present, which suggests that it would be possible to override the law to achieve one’s ends. For a game called “Outlaws”, it’s a minimum!
Going from one planet to another is done without loading times (or very short and camouflaged). Of course, our heroine has her personal ship to travel. During the journeys, space battles are in order. It’s up to you to ‘cheep cheep’ against the Empire’s TIE Fighters!
What will be the story of Star Wars Outlaws?
Star Wars Oulaws takes place between The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. We embody Kay Vess, a young rascal in search of a better life.
No details on the storyline itself, but the trailer and gameplay footage gave some clues. First of all, he should have a connection with Han Solo, seen in the announcement trailer. As a reminder, the smuggler is at this time a prisoner in carbonite, enthroned in the palace of Jabba the Hutt. Outlaws could tell us an untold story on the subject.
Second, we see the Pykes syndicate, a large criminal organization that we have already seen in The Clone Wars or The Book of Boba Fett. The Empire, which is then stronger than ever, is also part of it.

How many planets can we explore in Star Wars Outlaws?
Star Wars Outlaws will allow to explore several planets of the Star Wars universe. The gameplay sequence confirmed two of them: Toshara and Akiva. Not only will these be open planets, but their orbits can be surveyed with the ship.
The trailer shows other emblematic planets of the license, but it is not known for the moment if we will be able to fully explore them or if they will only be present in cinematics. We can see Canto Bight, already seen in Episode VIII, or Kijimi (Episode IX).
A map even shows us a planet that looks like… Tatooine. It may be a backwater, but it’s the center of the Star Wars storyline universe. His presence would therefore be logical.
What other Star Wars games are planned for the future?
Outlaws isn’t the only Star Wars game planned. Lucasfilm intends to exploit its license to the fullest with the help of studios that have proven themselves. Several major projects are currently in development, here they are:

This title is still quite nebulous. We just know that it will take place during the era of the High Republic (before Episode I) and that it is developed by Quantic Dream studio. Eclipse is not expected for several years.
Knights of the Old Republic Remake
Knights of the Old Republic is a cult game signed Bioware and it will soon benefit from a remake. If we don’t have any gameplay images yet, many rumors speak of a painful development, some even spoke of cancellation. However, Embracer Group reported that the project is still ongoing and has just changed studios.
A Star Wars FPS and RTS by Respawn
Respawn Entertainment, already behind the Star Wars Jedi, is behind two new titles. Nothing is known about them, except that there is an FPS and an RTS.
The sequel to Jedi Survivor
No official announcement, but Jedi Fallen Order and Jedi Survivor director Stig Asmussen indicated that the saga had been thought of as a trilogy. So we should have this sequel someday. Of course Respawn should still be directing. This would therefore make three Star Wars games in development within the studio.
