Relegation after victory sure
Kiel comes even closer to promotion to the Bundesliga
The forced Corona break simply cannot harm them: Holstein Kiel has remained undefeated since returning from quarantine. Two late goals ensure victory against Regensburg. The promotion to the first Bundesliga is within reach – at least the relegation is possible.
Holstein Kiel seized the opportunity and secured at least the promotion relegation rank in the 2nd Bundesliga. In the catch-up game against Jahn Regensburg, the storks celebrated their seventh home win in a row after a great fight with 3: 2 (1: 1). Holstein is still missing a win for direct promotion to the Bundesliga.
Andreas Albers (16th minute / penalty kick) and Albion Vrenezi (75th) gave the guests the lead twice, but Fin Bartels (20th), Simon Lorenz (79th) and Alexander Mühling (83rd) turned the game in favor of Kiel . Behind VfL Bochum (63 points), the storks (62) are second in front of the pursuers Greuther Fürth (58) and Hamburger SV (55) and can no longer be displaced by a top three place with only two games left. Regensburg missed it with the fifth winless match in a row to secure the class prematurely.
In the first 45 minutes, the focus was on video referee Florian Lechner. First he intervened because Kiel’s Fabian Reese had deflected a flank with his hand – penalty. Albers slipped away from the point with the shot, but overcame goalkeeper Thomas Dähne with luck and scored for the twelfth time. Bartels equalized after Jan-Niklas Best mistake with his tenth goal of the season. Another check was carried out in the video cellar, but the gate was regular. Bartels missed again just before the break (37th).
Due to two corona quarantines, it was already the seventh game for Holstein in just 20 days, but since returning from the forced break, Kiel has remained unbeaten. In the intense duel on wet, deep grass, however, the loss of strength was initially noticeable. After the remarkable Vrenezi goal everything looked like a home defeat, but the advanced Lorenz with his first goal of the season and Edeljoker Mühling let the exhausted Kieler cheer in the end.
