Renaud: the singer in five cult songs

The eternal Parisian Titi with the red bandana is releasing a new album this Friday, May 6, composed of covers and called “Métèque”, and will celebrate its 70th birthday on May 11. The perfect opportunity to come back to five mythical songs by the singer and composer who began his career in 1975 and sold more than 20 million albums.

The most founding: “Lovers of Paname” (1975)

Main title of the eponymous album – the artist’s first -, “Amoureux de Paname” is not Renaud’s best-known song but one of his first. We discover a young man with long hair who cries out his love for Paris, where he is from. More generally, it’s the whole album that sends back this image of a little bohemian Parisian titi that he will tend to change later.

The most loubar: “Leave concrete” (1977)

A metamorphosis that takes place from the second album where Renaud Séchan adopts a more rock style where black leather jackets have replaced white shirts. These new titles, including the essential “Laisse Béton” which he wrote in just thirty minutes on a pack of Gitanes before going on stage, forged the artist’s loubar identity.

The most personal: “Morgane de toi” (1983)

Since the release of his first album, Renaud has come a long way. Eight years and four albums later, he released “Morgane de toi”. In the eponymous song, an ode to his daughter Lolita, we discover the artist in a new light. Much softer but above all more moving.

The most traveler: “As soon as the wind blows” (1983)

Taken from the album “Morgane de toi” – the sixth of the Parisian -, the song “As soon as the wind blows” shows a traveling Renaud. A way to evoke his journey at sea with wife and child made between September 1982 and March 1983.

The most popular: “Mistral Gagnant” (1985)

If we had to remember only one title from Renaud, it would probably be this one. The French were not mistaken and named “Mistral Gagnant” as their “favorite French song of all time”, according to a BVA-Doméo-regional press survey unveiled in 2015. Bittersweet music that evokes time who passed.
