Renaud unveils the clip for “If you pay me a glass”, the first title of his new album

While an album of covers will be released on May 6, Renaud has unveiled the first clip, “If you pay me a glass”.

“You have to know how to love yourself despite the face you have. And never judge the good or the scoundrel. If you buy me a drink, I won’t blame you. To be nothing at all… I am nothing that is worth. Sitting at a table in the Lux Bar, at the Butte Montmartre, Renaud declaims the words of his title “If you pay me a glass”, the first extract from his upcoming album. Almost half a century ago, Bernard Dimey scribbled “If you buy me a drink” in his notepad. From now on, Renaud sings it in a piano-voice, in his deep and scratchy voice.

A special evening on April 5

The release of his clip follows the announcement of the release of his 19th album, “Métèque”. The latter, which will be released on May 6, just a few days before its 70th anniversary, is a cover project. If fans can pre-order it from this Thursday, March 31, you will have to wait until May to listen to the titles. We already know that we will find thirteen reinterpretations of titles by artists who inspired him: George Moustaki (logical when we see that he chose to call his album “Métèque”), Jacques Higelin , Françoise Hardy, Yves Montand, Hugues Auffray, Jean Ferrat, Bourvil and even Boby Lapointe.

This news is proof that the artist is not ready to stop his career. Despite his addiction problems, the singer seems back on his feet and ready to continue. Last November, he declared to the Parisian: “I eliminated the cigarette, I went from sixty a day to fifteen. I am addicted to vaping. And I definitely quit alcohol six months ago. I am a new man.”

Nevertheless, the tour is not topical. “I’m retired. I will do a minimum of promotion, that’s all, ”he said. Know all the same that France 2 will devote a special evening to him on April 5 at the Dôme de Paris, with many guest artists including Tryo and Gauvain Sers.
