Like a true storyteller, actor Jean-Paul Rouve, a close friend of Renaud, will shed moving and mischievous light on the history of these mythical songs thanks to the dissemination of rare archives.
“It affects me”confided Renaud to the Parisian about the many artists who came to pay tribute to his long career. And to add, very moved: “I liked seeing Calogero perform ‘Pierrot’, Joyce Jonathan cover the little-known ‘Coeur perdu’, the children’s choir on ‘Mistral Gagnant’… When Zaz sang ‘Petite conne’, on a girl who died of an overdose, I shed my tear”. On France 2 tonight, Renaud will sing no less than seven songs. “I was terrified before, but I was carried away by the enthusiasm of the public. It always surprises me, this unconditional love. It made me want to go back on stage, entrusted the singer to our colleagues. But I’m waiting for a new album of original songs to do it. I take a break. I stopped the concerts in 2017. In three years, I will have 50 years of career, it’s not bad. Everyone tells me that I should have done concerts for my 70th birthday. But I don’t want to.”
Renaud: “I’m afraid of a third world war”
At 70, Renaud is “tender always, rebellious less and less”as he explained to the Parisian. “Rather disillusioned. Finally, I remain revolted of course by the injustice, the misery, the fate reserved for women and children, the war in ukraine. In the show, I wear a t-shirt with the Ukrainian flag, to show in all simplicity my attachment to the Ukrainian resistance and to protest against Russian imperialism which disgusts me, added the committed artist. I watch the news on repeat on TV. That worries me. I’m afraid of a third world war.” After having experienced complicated months, due to his fragile health, Renaud is back with an album, entitled Métèque, which contains 13 covers. “I wanted to share these songs, which marked my childhood and my life”, he described. Happy birthday Renaud!
