Renault and Atos deploy an industrial data aggregation solution

To optimize the production chain and control large-scale energy consumption in factories, industrial data is a gold mine. Renault and Atos want to take advantage of large volumes of untapped data by creating an unprecedented solution for collecting large-scale industrial data.

Called ID@scale, it aims to “improve the operational performance of industrial equipment”, in particular by reducing defects on parts, indicate the two partners in a joint press release.

Originally, Renault’s engineering, digital and IT teams developed this solution to capture data from the car manufacturer’s industrial facilities. Today, it is deployed in 22 factories, which represents more than 70% of its production, and “more than 7,500 devices connected with standardized data models for around fifty different manufacturing processes”.

Substantial savings are made, of the order of “80 million euros per year”, specifies Renault. The manufacturer is targeting 200 million euros in savings next year, once 35 factories are connected.

Google as backup

Digital has made its appearance in the industrial world on several levels. For example, Renault has been deploying its “connected workforce” for several years, in particular to equip unit heads with tablets and smartphones containing the entire online information system for detecting an incident and consulting the appropriate documentation.

The Renault group had signed a partnership with Google Cloud in July 2020 with a view to bringing out a culture of data, and taking advantage of Google’s expertise in the analysis of very large volumes of data. Google is responsible for improving Renault’s digital platform, developed since 2016 to connect and aggregate industrial data from its sites around the world.

The large-scale deployment of ID@scale is the logical continuation of this partnership. “Renault Group has developed a unique technological solution to collect industrial data on a large scale to improve the performance of our production tools and ultimately the quality of our vehicles. Today, we are delighted to take a new step with Atos, this collaboration allows us to commercialize our know-how in order to help companies in the industrial sector in the passage, at the scale of their digital transformation” declared Jose -Vicenter de Ios Mozos, industrial director of Renault Group.

Imagine potential applications

The solution that will be deployed on a large scale with Atos tends to standardize industrial data as soon as it is collected, then to contextualize it before making it available in the cloud to imagine potential applications.

The solution, intended to go beyond the purely automotive field, will benefit from Atos’ Edge to Cloud offer, to analyze large volumes of industrial data. It will be gradually improved in order to adapt to “all types of environment” and to “deploy the solution as a service everywhere in the world” specifies a press release.

“In a market with no equivalent offer, Atos makes it possible to modularize and strengthen the ID@scale solution for all industrial players all over the world,” underlined Rakesh Khanna, Director of Digital Activity at Atos.
