Renault entrusts the production of its hybrids to Spain

REPORT – The Losange relies on the excellence of its Spanish pole. The new SUVs will be produced there.

At the Renault plant in Palencia in Spain, the production rate is no longer that of the heyday. Since the beginning of the year, only 98,000 vehicles have been manufactured there. Much less than before the Covid crisis: 240,126 cars were produced there in 2019.

This Renault site, 85% of whose production is exported, is nevertheless one of the most efficient in the group. A few months after his arrival at the head of Losange, Luca de Meo even chose to present the Spanish version of his “Renaulution” strategic plan in this factory, in the presence of the King of Spain. But today, the lack of semiconductors continues to rage. And rather than stopping production, the leaders preferred to slow down the pace and maintain activity. Instead of three teams of operators per day, one and a half currently takes turns on the assembly lines of the Mégane and the brand new SUV, the Austral, which the Losange only manufactures…
